‘Enlightenment! Derbyshire Setting the Pace in the 18th Century’ is a partnership between Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, Belper North Mill and Derby Museums and Art Gallery.

With a £200,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund ‘Collecting Cultures’ funding stream and additional sources, these three accredited Derbyshire museums are adding artefacts to their collections, helping to record and understand the Enlightenment in Derbyshire. A selection of the objects that have been purchased so far are displayed in this case.

The museums are looking for objects that relate to 18th and 19th century Derbyshire with a focus on objects that reflect the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. The aim is to reflect the themes of Inquiry, Creativity and Status.
