Congratulations to Derby Museum and Art Gallery

The Joseph Wright Collection at Derby Museum and Art Gallery has been awarded Designated Status by the MLA. This means the collection has been recognised as being of national and international importance. The award is given to non-national museums and honours the very best collections in museums, archives and libraries.
What the MLA said about Derby Museum –
Derby Museum and Art Gallery holds the largest collection of Joseph Wright’s work. The collection comprises 34 oil paintings and over 300 drawings and prints, original frames, personal items and documents of one of the most exciting and innovative British artists of the 18th century. Wright made his reputation by his unique series of paintings on scientific and industrial themes, ranging from scientific discovery and experimentation, industry and landscapes, through to literature, the classics and contemporary history.
